Greatest Wrestler of the generations.

I was thinking one day and it occured to me. Every generation, the wrestling industry, has one main person that is, probably, not the best wrestler but has the best gimmick. This person carrys the industry into the main stream. But there is, also, a wrestler that is always the best wrestler, still a top guy, but not the biggest.

For example:

In the Golden era (80's era):
We had Hulk Hogan as the character and Ric Flair as the wrestler

Early 90's:
We had the Macho Man as the character and, either, Mr.Perfect or Bret Hart as the best wrestler.

Mid-Late 90's:
We had Stone Cold Steve Austin as the best character and Shawn Michaels as the best Wrestler.

Early 00's:
We had Goldberg as the best character and HHH as the best wretler.

Now:
We have John Cena as the best character and we have Randy Orton as the best wrestler.

These are my thaughts, tell me what you guys think?

Goldbergs streak went from late 97-late 98 and he never achieved 1/10th of that success again and in 2000 he went out with a shoulder injury, so it wouldn't be accurate to call him the best character of the early 2000's when he was either not wrestling or just rehashing old storylines for that entire period.


And as the guy above me mentioned,there isn't a chance in hell that Randy Orton is the best wrestler of this era. He's not even the best wrester in the feud with RKO and DX. Michaels,HHH,Angle,Styles,Daniels,Benoit, Londan,Kendrick,Finlay,Regal and 50 more guys on the WWE/TNA rosters and 500 guys on the indys are all better wrestlers than Orton.

The fight Triple H got injured, Orton was the only one who couldn't think on his feet. Edge "attempted" a pin so him and triple H could plan out a move together, Shawn (when he realized) took out orton and disqulified them, Triple H still did all he could do...Orton ran into the ring holding a chair like the original ending then ran out without doing anything, looking like an idiot.

late 90's i would say Austin as the character and Angle as the wrestler

Early 00' HHH as the character and Benoit as the wrestler(possibly Eddie)

it should be noted that the rock and jericho should be mentioned in some sense yes i know they were both good wrestlers and even better characters.

My point was to show that Goldbergs most profitable period was way before the early 2000's. Goldberg only wrestled about 30 matches over the course of one year for the WWE and most of his matches stunk up the building, and 8 of my ten picks that were better than Orton were WWE guys.

Mid to late...SCSA and The Rock...Both had great matches and great promos

Mid 90's - Stone Cold and The Rock as both Characters and wrestlers.

00 - HHH as Character and Angle and Beniot as wrestler.

Now - John Cena as Character and Kurt Angle as wrestler

The people that are going to carry WWE into the next generation of wrestling are gonna be Edge, Orton, Cena, Carlito and possibly CM Punk. They have the brightest futures as of right now.

Cena's already carrying this generation of wrestling. I can see Kennedy helping out in a few years.

In the 80's it was Hogan
Mid 90's it was Hart and Michaels
Late 90's, Early 00's it was Rock and Austin
Then it was HHH for a while.
