Default Raikkonen coy on Ferrari question

FINN Kimi Raikkonen today continued to elude the hottest question in Formula One – which team he will drive for next year.

Raikkonen has committed to McLaren until only the end of this season amid rumours he plans to switch to Ferrari.

That would depend on either the retirement of seven-times world champion Michael Schumacher or the end of Brazilian Felipe Massa – or perhaps both.

With reigning titleholder Fernando Alonso of Renault headed for McLaren next season several of the most prized seats in the sport will become potentially vacant.

Raikkonen typically gave little indication today of his thoughts but would not commit himself to McLaren long-term.

Alonso said that despite Renault's recent domination he felt McLaren would be the form team over the next few years.

"I don't know, a lot of things can happen in the next few years," Raikkonen said.

"He obviously has a contract but you never know what's going to happen.

"But I don't have any bad things to say about McLaren."

Raikkonen shrugged off all the speculation surrounding his immediate future, saying: "It doesn't make any difference to me at all."

And he said it made no difference to him if he were teamed with Alonso, perhaps the only driver who could challenge him for speed.

"I don't care who my teammate is. The team makes the decision and all I do is drive the car."

Raikkonen said it was not easy in any case to determine the quickest driver in a team.

"It's one of those things that you never know, it's a bit complicated, it's not straightforward," he said.

"Nobody knows who's quicker, I just do my best."

Montoya, meanwhile, said he was in no way distracted by the move by Alonso to Mercedes.

"I'm okay, I'm concentrating on this year," Montoya said.

"When I was in America and I was moving to Formula One I signed the deal eight months before but I was still pushing as hard as I could for the team and it's the same here.

"I think we have a good chance of winning the championship this year and I need to try to score points every race and have a chance of winning," he said.

If Michael Schumacher wins the drivers championship for the eith time this year then iam sure that he will want to retire as there will be nothing left for him to achive in the sport as he owns most of the World records for FIA racing and has enough money to live on comfortably.
If he does retire from F1 it will be interesting to see who the new number 1 driver for the ferrari team is next year...

Schumacher will probably retire at the end of the season to be honest, he's had a great career so far in F1, but he'll prolly retire IMO. Massa might stay, depending on how well he does at Ferarri this season. Montoya and Alonso would make a great partnership for McLaren next year IMO, and i'm a big Montoya mark and have been for sometime. So Raikkonen will most likely goto Ferarri.
